Screensaver
A screensaver is a picture which appears on the phone's display when it is idle. Any picture message can be used as a screensaver.

Service Provider
A company affiliated with a network carrier that provides mobile phone services to its customers.

SIM (Subscriber Identity Module)
Synonymous with the "smart card" required by all mobile customers to operate their phone. Carries authentication, billing and other information about the individual subscriber, as well as address book and other personalised information.

SMS - Short Message Servicee
Short Message Service (SMS) is a feature available with some wireless phones that allow users to send and/or receive short alphanumeric messages. See also Messaging.

Speed Dialling
The touch of one key (key 2-9) to activate a call to a certain person. Key 1 is usually reserved for the voice mailbox.

Standby Time
The time a battery can power a phone in the standby mode (switched on and ready to make or receive a call), without being used for an actual call. The longer a phone is in standby mode, the less standby time remains in the battery. See also Talk time.

Streaming
One-way transmission of video and audio contents over the Internet is called streaming. Streaming can be point-to-point or broadcasting from one origin to multiple receivers. Several radio stations broadcast their transmissions over the internet and video broadcasts are gaining popularity. Streaming is also possible over high-bandwidth wireless networks.

SyncML is an open data synchronization protocol enabling data synchronization between mobile devices and networked services. SyncML is a transport, data type, and platform independent technology that is based on Extensible Markup Language (XML).
